iPod phone

Following on from Wendy's post (below), today also sees Apple release the first iPod / cell phone hybrid device. What do you think? Does it have legs or have other manufacturers already stolen a march on Apple this time?

See the story here.

I like the idea of combining cellphones and MP3 Players but this particular product can only store 100 songs !?!? Not enough for the music enthusiast.

What I also don't understand is the concept of iPod Shuffle. I love music but I am very 'strict' about listening to albums rather than songs because I loathe some aspects of the music industry which seems destined to go for the 'killer single' rather than a complete album. I know that a single can get you recognised but I believe the purist preferes the whole album. As an example I would like to give you the Dandy Warhols who have a long history of killer songs but lame albums and on the other side is US band The National whose albums are works of art.

Back to the heading my summary reads:
MP3 player + cellphone = good
but needs more storage capacity.
Also can I download songs via the cellphone (WAP) and pay the cost through the telecom provider?
iPod Shuffle technology = Bad!!!!

I certainly think its going appeal, simply for the fact that the ipod has such major street cred, the idea of an apple phone is going sit well with many people I feel, because of the element of quality associated with the ipod and its sheek looks.

when i first see the phone, it reminds me of my motorola E398. not a very conventional design i guess. but with a phone that can store 100 songs, dont think its anything conventional. for my e398(which i brought one year ago for $590) has mp3 play back function with 8 mb on phone memory with a expension bay for memory card. say if i buy an 512 mb sd flash card and upgrade it to my phone. i will be able to store about 100 songs, but might not be able to sorts out music like ipod does. maybe it should be called "phone iPod" instead?
