Play Station 3 is on the way!

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is the next generation video game console in Sony's market-leading PlayStation series. It is the successor to the PlayStation 2 and will mainly compete against the Nintendo Revolution and Xbox 360. Sony has announced that the PS3 will be fully backward compatible with earlier PS2 and PS1 games, ensuring continued support for older software formats in the new hardware. However, there hasn’t been any confirmation though if the PS3 will make PS2 games look better when playing like the PS2 did with PS1 games. I think the most important thing to the fans is the price of PS3. But the system's retail price has not yet been confirmed. Sony officials suggested that the PS3 will actually cost less than ¥50,000 in Japan, which is currently about 610 NZ dollars. Otherwise, Sony confirmed the PlayStation 3 will be available around March 2006. Sony officials also suggested the PlayStation 3 may be launched simultaneously in Japan and North America, unfortunately not worldwide. Another good news is Sony will have an online service very comparable to Microsoft’s Xbox Live service, which means the PS3 games will be playable online.
